An affogato is a coffee based desert which includes ice cream, or gelato, and espresso coffee. The ice cream melts into the hot espresso delightfully sweetening it as it does. The coffee can be served separate to allow the customer to be involved in the theatre of the espresso cutting into the ice cream. The name Affogato means `drowned’ in English referring to the ice cream being drowned in coffee. This is one of the more simple espresso recipes yet the combination of the two is dangerously delicious.
