Unlike the more well-knownmacchiato where the coffee is stained with milk, the latte macchiato is milk stained with coffee.
The milk is first prepared in the cup with the espresso extracted on top. The espresso cuts through the froth and combines with the milk gradually staining the overall colour of the beverage. This brew gives prominence to the milk as opposed to the espresso. Often only a singleespressois used with the rest milk. Thecaffè latteis more combined to make a consistant beverage whereas the Latte macchiato, also known in Spain as Café Manchado, can be considered a layered drink for its appearance.
